Youth Handbells
...Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31

Who We Are

The Youth Handbell Choir is for anyone in grades 6th through 8th. Younger siblings may participate at the discretion of the leadership.

Rehearsals:
Mostly the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month from 12:15 pm - 1:00 pm in the balcony of the Sanctuary. The schedule follows the school year. The choir also rehearses before playing in worship services.

Leader:
Melissa Taggart (Director of Music)
Youth in 8th grade will also be given some responsibility of leading the younger members of the choir.

Our Purpose

We will work together to give glory to God by creating music that worships God and edifies His people.

What We Do

Youth will learn to sing simple melodies in various languages with basic handbell accompaniment. These short, simple pieces are part of worship services throughout the year.

Older youth will learn harmonies and are given the responsibility of leading the younger youth.

Twice a year, the ensemble learns a larger work - using various playing techniques - that is shared with the congregation and/or is performed during our Christmas or Palm Sunday Concerts.

FAQs

Does my youth need to know how to read music?

No! A lot of the music is learned by ear. For larger pieces, each youth is only assigned to learn how to read one or two notes on the Grand Staff. Youth will learn basic note reading skills or iwll enhance their current skills.

How difficult is the singing?

Not very! The melodies we learn to sing are short and repetitive. They are in languages with open, easy-to-sing vowels (e.g. Hebrew, Latin). Older youth will be challenged by singing harmonies and 2nd parts in rounds.

Can siblings join?

Due to the Sunday School schedule, at this time we can only accept children who are in 6th through 8th grades.
